Emule

 The Emule web page: http://www.emule-project.net/

Latest version of Emule: http://www.emule-project.net/home/perl/general.cgi?l=1&rm=download

 Once downloaded, open the installer.

When you open the installer, the above screen appears. Select your language and press ok to go to the next step. When the next screen appears, press next to go to the next step. The next screen will be the License Agreement. Press I agree to go to the next step.

At the next step it is extremely important that you select "Take ED2K-Links" This program, Emule, is and updated and improved version of a program called "edonkey2000" which unfortunately is not available for free anymore.

Select the location to which you want to install the file. Press install to install the program. Once installation is complete, press close.

The Emule First Runtime Wizard appears. Press Next. At the new screen, enter a  user name for yourself. Press next to continue.

What the above screen is asking is whether or not you want the program to use less resources trying to increase the download speed of popular files and instead use those resources trying to make slow files download faster. I recommend selecting  the option.

I recommend selecting the option.

Selecting this option will make it easier for files to be shared with others. I recommend selecting it.

Make sure the eD2K network, not the Kad network is chosen. Also, I strongly recommend enabling the option for EMule to connect on startup. When you are done press next to continue. The next screen notifies you that this is the end of the Wizard. Press finish.

The Last step of configuring our preferences has to do with your internet connection. Select the appropriate settings and then hit apply. When you do this Emule will start.

As you can see above, the "Servers" tab is selected. In Emule,  servers are used to provide an entry point into this network. A connection to a server is necessary to access the network's resources and to make your client known to the network.  Searching for downloads or for sources of a download is done over the servers.  Therefore, you must regularly update the servers in order to access new sources.

There are several ways in Emule to update the server list:

o Auto-update serverlist at start up
Exit Emule. In the directory you unzipped/installed Emule to, you’ll find the file adresses.dat. Open it with notepad and enter a valid URL to a server.met. Only one URL is supported.
Checking this option, Emule will update its server list from the URL provided in the adresses.dat at start up. Use the following URL: http://ed2k.2x4u.de/index.html

When you are finished open Emule and wait until the bottom left-hand corner reports that you are connected. Now when you use the links on this site, the files will appears in Emule (under transfers) and they will being downloading.  Please note that EMule is slow, however it does get faster the longer it runs.
